Its aim is promotion of creative thinking and innovative solutions in jewellery design with amber. This year’s topic was: Materia Prima.

Jury composed of: Caroline Broadhead (Great Britain), Montserrat Lacomba (Spain), Mariusz Gliwiński, Anna Sado (Poland) assessed 143 works submitted by 111 artists from 18 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brasil, China, Spain, The Netherlands, German, Iran, India, Mexico, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Taiwan, USA, Great Britain, Italy and gave following prizes:

GRAND PRIX sponsored by the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk - 10.000 PLN

for Nina Kupniewska i Dario Dalessandro

Suggestive and brave work - funny, awkward, serious, potentially controversial. It provokes a discussion about our attitude towards menstruation. In the past, it was taboo, something shameful, downright dirty, although it is a natural and healthy phenomenon, even essential for human life. Amber, hidden in the ground for centuries, also is associated with the time and the mysterious processes of nature. Using such a beautiful material to present tampon may symbolize positive changes of previous attitudes.

AMBER PRIZE sponsored by the International Amber Association - 1 kg of amber

for Tomasz Jan Kisiel

This work in a very convincing way refers to the theme of the competition - Materia Prima. Archetypal necklace, which becomes extraordinary due to contrast used materials. Characteristics of natural amber has been highlighted by the contrast of texture and color of the other beads with an uneven texture. Beads were made of material, which provoked a big discussion. Is it a tuff? Concrete? Bread?

SILVER PRIZE sponsored by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A - 1 kg of silver

Work awarded for big knowledge of the matter of amber and for the using an unconventional technical treatments, which change the banal shape of the necklace-amulet in the vanguard and elegant work of art.

The jury also decided to give honourable mentions to: Miron Kutarba, Tamara Grüner, Agnieszka Krzyżanowska, Philip Sajet, Susanne Holzinger.

The Jury selected 14 works by the following artists for publication in the AMBERIF 2014 Fair catalogue and for display at the exhibition: Karolina Krych, Karolina Navus Wysocka, Marta Rudnicka, Adriana Lisowska, Iona Mccuaig, Saffron Walden, Alicja Kołakowska, Tamara Grüner, Wanying Xu, Heidemarie Herb, Sara Gackowska, Piotr Tołkin, Adriana Lisowska, Monika Woszczak.
