NATURE MORTE. Jewellery

The exhibition is devoted to the subject of still life in contemporary jewellery. It was inspired by the afore mentioned Michael Petry and Giedymin Jabłoński - artist, curator, academic teacher. The exhibition was inspired by Michael Petry’s book Nature Morte.  The author tries to shows the complexity and history of still life. Petry divides the issue into five themes, which are also reflected in the works at the exhibition: flora, fauna, food, domestic objects and death.

Nature Morte

Jewellery is a relatively new and intensively developing medium of contemporary art. At the same time - as in the whole of contemporary art - we observe the blurring of the boundaries between jewellery and other, traditionally distinct arts. The idea of the exhibition's creators is to show, among other things, the instability of those borders. In addition we also get a topic very unusual for jewellery, i.e. still life, which appears in the form of various types of relationships with this traditional genre. These are analogies in both iconographic and symbolic layers. Some of the works presented at the exhibition are jewellery and still life in a straightforward way, others are associated with the title concept through similarities, analogies or narratives. It is no coincidence that in addition to the exhibition participants creating jewellery on a daily basis, there also appear artists who mainly engage in installation, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video. Their works balancing on the border of various areas are a particularly important contribution, testifying to the instability of the boundaries between various fields of contemporary art.
