Gdańsk Baltic Amber Biennale

Gdańsk Baltic Amber Biennale is an exhibition created on the initiative of Sławomir Fijałkowski from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and Wim Vandekerckhove from Villa de Bondt Gallery from Ghent (Belgium) and co-financed by Gdańsk City Council, the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and Villa de Bondt Gallery.

This is the third edition of the exhibition, to which 31 European artists were invited. Their task was to present a modern vision of jewellery with Polish Baltic amber, which will positively break through the traditional perception of this material. Thus a unique collection of contemporary objects with amber emerged. The exhibition offers an exceptional opportunity to discover the avant-garde nature of the "gold of the north" and shows the importance of amber as a medium for European material culture.

From the beginning, the Biennial has been hosted by Gdańsk - the World Capital of Amber - which also hosts many other important shows of amber jewellery. For more than 20 years jewellery works have been presented in the framework of the Amberif Design Award. Each year in Gdańsk there are also design workshops for artists and designers from all over the world, and galleries and museums actively organize exhibitions with amber as the leading theme .
