The Institute of Jewellery at the Wł. Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts is the only one with this specialisation among higher art education institutions in Poland. Its roots go back to the late 1950s, when the artist and educator Lena Kowalewicz-Wegner established the first metal-related studio at the State Higher School of Fine Arts. Her didactic and artistic principles are a valuable legacy continued by all our educators.

Jewellery design has been present in Łódź for 65 years. The long-term result of this legacy is the Institute, which comprises around 10 studios, educating students in many areas closely related to this field. The educational cycle is implemented in a system of full-time undergraduate and postgraduate studies. It educates designers of jewellery and goldsmith forms. Students design and make: unique and industrial jewellery, table objects, metal accessories, medals, statuettes, etc.

Work with students is mainly geared towards developing individual artistic aptitude, imagination, creativity and manual skills. Parallel learning in the design and workshop studios provides students with optimum specialised preparation both as industrial designers and independent artists, allowing graduates to make an individualised career choice.
