Schmuck 2013

Exhibition of Artistic Jewellery SCHMUCK is a special show of the International Crafts Fair in Munich. Since 1959 it is an important competition and attracting international attention event in the world of goldsmithing. Despite the complex history, the idea of the review is still valid and is gaining in popularity. At the beginning the exhibition was limited to the area of Germany and Europe, but in the `90 it grow into an event with global reach. For this year's edition of the exhibition submitted 700 entries from 35 countries.

The specificity of the exhibition is to entrust the final classification of artists only one juror. The choice in the year 2013 was made by Swiss goldsmith - Bernhard Schobinger. He chose 57 artists important in his eyes, suggesting their techniques of work with the material and created by their sensual compositions, free from imitation or duplication of global trends.

In addition, for this year's exhibition SCHMUCK organizers invited Warwick Freeman from New Zealand, which is now considered as one of the finest local jewellery makers. Choosing forms and materials, he often goes back to the tradition of his country and in his abstracted, very reduced language of artistic media he found his own unique style.

Schmuck 2013 was once again enabled by the cooperation of the Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern, the Danner Foundation, and the GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen. The Benno and Therese Danner Applied Arts Foundation has assumed the sponsorship of the show, and the GHM enabled the catalogue and the Herbert-Hofmann-Award. The Handwerkskammer has organized the competition and exhibition ever since its founding in 1959.
